Welcome to Crosshatching's!

Drawing is so integral to all art, and in and of itself, I consider it to be as major an art form as any. With such an emphasis on traditional art and methods being taught again in many atelier's and other schools around the world drawing is rising to an importance in art that it has probably never had before. It is wonderful to see so many younger artist's today learning those methods and learning to become such excellent draughtsmen (and women) Traditional realism is alive and thriving and hopefully through Crosshatching's I can add my own little niche to such a great body of work existing now. Enjoy your visit here!

Progress, albeit little, has been made...

This is how my current drawing sits as I get a chance to work on it this afternoon. The darks and the textures of the surface the lantern sits on seem to be just about right though the cast shadow of the lantern will determine the final balance of lights and darks. So far the entire drawing has been done with Staedtler Mars Lumograph H pencils and Sanford Design H pencils, two decidedly different "H" leads, on Strathmore 100lb Vellum Bristol.

Michael, I have been staring at this drawing......staring, staring.......trying to figure out, "how does he make the values and transitions look so soft??". I've noticed it in most of your drawings, and it is a beautiful quality......like velvet.

Layers, layers, layers... and a lot of staring myself, probably a lot more staring than drawing.
Thanks Lynda, always look forward to your comments.
